    Halfway

I dreamed last night that we had a baby. It was a long dream, and one of those rare, completely realistic dreams. There were no multi-story buildings missing the stairs, no embarrassing nonsensical “forgot my pants” scenarios, and I wasn’t trying to drive a car from the passenger seat. It was just my family enjoying our new baby. Jason’s parents were there, meeting their new grandbaby. I was watching proudly as my children told the story of how we came to have another child, and Jason held the baby close and kissed her tiny head. The baby was a girl. She was a newborn. She didn’t have a first name.…

    Garage Sale and Other News

Here is our long overdue update! I’m sorry it has taken me so long to post, but it has been a bit of a circus here for the past month and a half. When I announced that we were accepting items for our garage sale, things were donated sporadically, and I committed to sorting and pricing them all as they came.  Large items were posted for sale immediately so that they would move out, and I felt like I had good handle on this fundraising machine.  About a week before the sale, I announced a “last call” for donations, and you guys, it got crazy up in here.  For 4 days,…

    Twenty-five Percent!

We’ve been asked so many times, “Why does it cost so much to adopt?” I never feel prepared to answer this question.  We have been through this process before, so we were prepared for the costs, and the faith required to commit to it.  I guess I don’t question it anymore. I thought I would include in this post an itemized list, so that the daunting price tag would make more sense to those who haven’t adopted recently.  During my internet research of adoption fundraising, I’ve learned that $45,000 is a typical amount that parents should expect to pay for any adoption currently, whether international or domestic.  So ours is…

This is one of those days when I wish I had been brave enough to share with you exactly what I had been praying for earlier, so that you could experience the thrill of answered prayer along with me now. Hearing a great story about God’s provision after the fact is always heartwarming, but there’s nothing like the wonder of a specific prayer answered clearly and definitely. Our family has been keeping a record of every person who has helped and supported us in this adoption, every answered prayer, and each milestone as we achieve it. It has been incredible to watch those lists grow. Over and over I question…

    Today’s Discount: Forty Percent Off

You aren’t going to believe me. I really wrestled with the decision to post this because I don’t want to destroy any credibility I might have earned here, but I decided it was such a powerful experience that it merited being included in my adoption story. You might close this out thinking I’m full of fantasy and false conclusions. That’s okay. Because it was very real to me. And it gave me a giddy hope that felt awesome. Yesterday, Jason was praying that God would provide for the adoption. Specifically because we haven’t seen much progress there lately. In fact, both the book and the adoption are sort of at…
